Bright Nickel Plating Solution is an electroplating solution that is designed to plate a hard, bright nickel deposit onto most types of metallic surfaces*. When correctly applied to a properly prepared surface the nickel plate can provide a beautiful, high luster decorative finish by itself. Because of its excellent appearance, hardness, and other physical properties, Bright Nickel Plate is the most common material used as an under plate for subsequent finishes, such as, chrome, gold, rhodium and other types of decorative finishes.

*A few metals such as zinc, stainless steel, and tungsten require special pretreatment before plating with Bright Nickel Plating Solution.

What you will need to use this solution properly:

Our Bright Nickel Solution requires a bagged nickel anode and the proper equipment and supplies to be used. We recommend electroplating equipment such as our Jewel MasterGold StarUniversal Plater, or the ProLabcm  which will have everything you need to perform this important pre-treatment step.

For best results we strongly suggest plating at the proper temperature with agitation. Brush results will not get as bright of a finish as you will with bath plating.

NOTE: At 40 ASF you can achieve 2.5 microns in 3 mins and at 30 ASF you can achieve 2.5 microns in 4 minutes.

NOTE: The Bright Nickel Solution contains a brightener/leveling component that may come out of solution at lower temperatures. This can produce a white or light-colored layer of precipitate at the bottom of the container. If this happens the nickel solution will still perform normally as a brush plating solution. However, if the solution is to be used for bath plating then the leveling component needs to be re-dissolved back into the solution. This can be done by warming the solution to 135° F to 155° F and agitating the solution until the leveling component is dissolved. See video below.

Great stuff, Flawless every time!

I've been making copper parts on a lathe lately and I wanted to plate them to prevent corrosion. Looked around to see if this was easy to do as I knew little to nothing about plating. Found nickel plating is actually super easy to do and weighed my options of paying for a service or doing it myself. Came across GoldPlating and gave this bright-nickel product a try. I used it with their cleaner/activator and my first-ever platings came out super solid. Mirror like shine ( I did buff the copper prior to plating ). Didn't measure how thick it went on, but it seems pretty solid. Stuck tape to it and it didnt peal off. Didn't think it would be that easy! Great solution for products you can just buy and use right away with little to know experience. All the info is on the bottle, plenty of resources on the website. It was double-bagged. Despite the bottle didn't leak in shipping, its nice to see that extra packaging "Just in case". Pretty happy!

Plating solution review

The purchase process was fine and the web site relatively easy to traverse. The instructions for use are a bit lacking and it would be nice if there were a color chart for the available karat gold. I purchased the 24 karat hard gold which shows a voltage range for the product. There is also a video on the site showing how to plate with the master kit. The problem is they fail to mention in both the video and the written instructions that if the voltage in the gold path is on the high side it begins to bubble. If you are unaware as I was this is a bad thing. The bubbles cause the item to plate uneven and then you have to strip and start over. In addition the higher voltage causes the gold deposit to become darker along with microscopic pits. I redid the job at a lower voltage and all looked fine. I have yet to try the nickle process.

It worked well

We were doing nickel plating on stainless steel. We watched the videos on this and were able to follow the instructions quite easily to carry out the nickel plating. It worked well. We used the electro-cleaner solution and Wood's nickel strike as well, as they were part of the process, and it all worked as advertised.
